The Queen’s Companion
“I loved it. I was absolutely racing to the end, turning pages so fast I got a paper cut. Petton is a fabulous writer—very self-assured. The characters just blossom; Bella and Catherine will endear themselves to any reader. The research is spot-on; the attention to detail is meticulous and believable. The Queen’s Companion is an amazing debut.”

“An exciting entertaining new literary voice, Petton has a unique talent for detail, inspiring, and humorous characterization. She has pulled a fascinating, transcendental tale out of this period—forgotten of late in our mundane age of communications technology.

Heaven’s Daughter
“Having read and enjoyed The Queen’s Companion, I suspected that Heaven’s Daughter would be an exceptional book. And I was correct. In this novel, the horror of slavery, war, prejudice, and discrimination are all brought together. However, love and loyalty demonstrate a great healing power. I also found this story to be extremely realistic and well researched. While I have studied this era and thought about how difficult it would be for people to mix interracially, I never considered what it would be like for homosexual couples. Petton addresses both issues in one relationship. It was refreshing to be able to enjoy an incredibly written story and be offered soemthing new to reflect on. I highly recommend Heaven’s Daughter.”

Sofia’s Song
“If you liked The Color Purple, you’ll love this story that takes the characters of Heaven’s Daughter through the next part of their life journey. Once again, Petton weaves a tale of personal discovery through a time and place in our history that comes alive again. It is remarkable how she creates these characters that become real people that become real people that I feel like I know personally through her descriptions of their thoughts and feelings, all in the context of a specific time and place. Great story of love and struggles and self-discovery.”
